This robust heating cable is self-regulating, and its heat output is dependent on the ambient temperature. This means the heating tape can never get too hot. The colder the outside environment, the more power the heating cable outputs. When the temperatures rise, the heating cable will reduce its output.
This heating cable is therefore also extremely suitable for polyethylene pipes or other types of plastic!
Applications
Prevent damage from freezing of: water pipe, tap, water meter, sewer pipe, drainpipe, drain, water pipe in livestock stall, drinking trough, watering channel, plant bed (in the ground), condensate drain of central heating boiler, gutter, drainpipe, water source. This heating cable even helps prevent mould formation due to moisture.
Well deployable in damp environments: home, farm, cellar, garage, shed, animal housing, greenhouse, summer house, marina, motor cruiser, houseboat, boat, caravan, toilet block, etc.
Self-regulating: cannot overheat
The colder the environment, the lower the resistance of the carbon body in the cable. This means that the most heat is automatically dissipated in the coldest spots.
This heating cable is a ready-to-use solution. Also practical for temporary use, such as for events. The heating cable does not contain any substances harmful to (use in) drinking water and may therefore also be used inside a water pipe.
Heating cable is plug-ready
The connection between the supply cable (black, rubber) and the heating element (blue, Teflon) is of such quality that this de-icing cable is suitable for wet applications, both indoors and outdoors. For indoor applications, a plug-in thermostat is a useful accessory.
The heat cable is protected against overheating, even when it is laid overlapping (“crossed”). To attach this heat cable, you normally use self-adhesive insulating tape or aluminium tape.
Pipe frost protection
- Indoors: frost protection down to -30°C
- Outdoor: frost protection down to -20°C
These minimum temperatures apply to pipes up to 32 mm in diameter, with at least 20 mm of insulation. For extra protection, you can wrap the cable around the pipe or apply it back and forth (on both sides).
Safe for PVC and polythene pipes
The heating cable may be used to protect a plastic pipe from freezing. It can simply be hung or laid in a PVC drainpipe. For all applications on plastic pipes, we recommend aluminium tape.
Preventing a frozen water meter
A frozen water meter is an expensive business. If you catch it in time, you can still thaw it out before it freezes and breaks. This is easily done by wrapping a 1 or 2 metre electric heating cable around the water meter.
Winterising a water meter
With a heating cable around the water meter, it can no longer freeze. Because this heating is self-regulating, the water meter cannot get too hot.
Unlike most other heating wires, you may also lay a heating cable crosswise: see image.
Furthermore, the heating cable is waterproofed and therefore also safe in a wet or damp meter pit.
Making hoses frost-proof
Lay-flat hose, like a water pipe, offers many advantages. But how do you prevent lay-flat hose from freezing? Most frost protection cords are not suitable for this because they have a built-in thermostat that measures the temperature in only one place.
An important advantage of this heating cable: it is self-regulating. This means the heat output adjusts to the ambient temperature. This ensures optimal frost protection without the risk of the hose becoming too hot in other areas.
Heat distribution in the polyethylene pipe
A heating cable along the polyethylene pipe prevents it from freezing. For good heat transfer and distribution, the pipe should first be wrapped with aluminium tape. If possible, apply insulation afterwards to prevent heat loss.
This heating cable may also be used if the polyethylene pipe is (partially) underground.
Frost protection is now easy

Frost protection to prevent freeze damage. How do you do that? Of course, there are various forms of frost damage.
In a home, the focus is primarily on unheated spaces. Heating all spaces is usually an expensive undertaking. In uninsulated areas, such as a shed, there is then the risk that the pipes will freeze as soon as winter begins.
However, it is not practical to drain all the water pipes as soon as there is a risk of frost. So you must tackle the problem at the source, by heating the water pipe!
Winterising water pipes
A heating cable along the water pipe prevents it from freezing. Because this product is self-regulating, it can never get too hot.
Unlike most other heating wires, you can even apply it crosswise. This is particularly useful for a water meter (see image) or an outdoor tap which are difficult to heat due to their shape.

Interpretation:
- Small pipes (up to 25 mm) → 11 W/m is usually enough.
- Medium-sized pipes (25–50 mm) → depending on insulation 11–25 W/m.
- Large pipes (>50 mm) → almost always 25 W/m.
